Appeal
after greyhounds found.
ANIMAL welfare
chiefs are appealing to the public for information after two greyhounds
were found wandering the streets of Wirral.
The dogs
are brother and sister. One was dangerously thin and had been
starved of food while the other was in perfectly normal health.
They were discovered in Leasowe earlier this month and taken to
the RCPCA centre in Wallasey.
Officers
were able to identify the pair by ear tattoos registered with
the National Greyhound Stud Book. The dog is just over two-years-old
and was given the kennel name Detox Snoopy, the bitch was registered
as Detox Smudge.
RSPCA inspector
Roland Parkes said: "This really is a mysterious case and one
which we are anxious to solve. "When I first saw Snoopy I was
astonished, I have never seen a dog so thin. His ribs were clearly
visible and he had sores all over his back. "A healthy weight
for a dog of his age is around 35kg, when we found him, Snoopy
was just 16kg.
"It is very
sad, we have to keep an open mind about these matters but his
awful condition and massive weight loss obviously causes me great
concern. "Through the Greyhound Stud Book we were able to track
down the last registered keeper of the two animals.
"He sold them
about two years ago but did not keep details of the new owners.
"Because Smudge was in good condition we are not sure if the dogs
have been strays for some time.
"That is why
we hope people can come forward and help us work out what went
on and solve the mystery.
" Insp Parkes
added: "Both dogs have been given new names by our dog wardens
and have come on in leaps and bounds since we took them in.
"Snoopy is
putting weight back on and Smudge has already been rehomed."
