Eight die in MK shocker
Mysterious deaths rock Dimmock kennel

EIGHT greyhounds trained by Milton Keynes handler Steve Dimmock have died in mysterious
circumstances, but others which were affected appear to have recovered and commenced re-trials this
week.

Milton Keynes racing manager Bill Johnson said yesterday: "We were first informed of problems on May
13 and the vast majority of Steve's greyhounds were taken off the strength at that time. Sadly,
seven ultimately died and another was humanely put down due to her condition."……….

The greyhounds lost were Caspian Sea, Hulcote Ruby, Julias Girl, Katies Girl, Kilidinan Bossy,
Merlins Wizard, Mustang Spice, and Sly Wink.

MK drug identified by NGRC

THE NGRC yesterday stated that the eight greyhounds who died in May in mysterious circumstances
have, after lenghty forensic analysis, been founded positive for the drug rafoxanide.

The greyhounds, trained at Milton Keynes by Steve Dimmock, were among a number in the kennel which
were suddenly stricken and left the handler, and his wife Joan, distraught.

The NGRC states rafoxanide is a drug that is used on cattle and sheep outside the UK, but it is
extremely strong and certainly should never be used on canines. It is not licensed for any kind of
use in the UK, but is thought to be used abroad against liver fluke. An NGRC inquiry is to be held.
