"So what does everybody think of Droopy's Kewell pups? I know the market is saturated with pups for sale, but does anybody think that his pups are more marketable than the rest?"

(GA comment: Posted by Id Stonehaven, an American woman who helps run Global Greyhounds and who "owns" greyhounds in Ireland. Droopy's Kewell is a greyhound who is at stud in Ireland. The emphasis is ours.)

From Hove Owners Forum (pro-racing) June 2003

The biggest threat that the antis will bring up is litters being bred for racing - only 25% will make the track. Just look how many dogs are racing in the UK and Ireland. Work the figures out. A huge amount of this wonderful breed are lost.

I have heard a comment made by a breeder in Ireland - "This is a business. People do not complain about livestock being slaughtered."

From Global Greyhounds (pro greyhound racing forum) August 2003

"We recently lost a dog who broke his hock in several places and had to be put to sleep.........To make matters worse a dog we sold to England also went the same way.........But recently, or is it my imagination, several high quality dogs of the recent months have all went the same way.............

Is it the conditions that the dogs have been racing in i.e. the weather, sand too dry? Or are the dogs just running too hard into bends that are not safe. I don't know the answer, but there seems to be a trend it happening here in Ireland - also with several dogs on the southern tracks also suffering........"

"The time is coming when the anti racing brigade will be waiting with their cameras to film all these injured dogs -- who's fault? --management . On that note -- Vets at tracks should have a list of duties owed to injured dogs--- how many times have we seen dogs carried to cars, not stitched up or cleaned by attending vets?"

From Global Greyhounds (pro greyhound racing forum) August 2003

".........The NGRC (National Greyhound Racing Club) know how many (ex-racing greyhounds) are still in kennels, and should know how many have been rehomed privately or have been taken home by their owner. But they choose not to publicise this figure.Could it be that there would still be a large number of dogs unaccounted for?"

"A big problem I think is the number of dogs being bred. It's too easy to breed greys with nothing in mind but profit."

"The area that causes me great concern is that too many dogs ARE being put to sleep before their time due to being surplus to the industry's needs due to injury, age, or related issues."
