TORTURE AND DANGER FOR THE SPANISH DOGS OF BURGOS: TERRIBLE THINGS HAPPEN AT THE BURGOS ANIMAL SHELTER (address: Calle Quintanadueñas km 2,8 - 09003 Burgos, Spain) Next door to the shelter there is a gypsy camp, and these people steal the dogs, torture them and use them for their dog fights (a very profitable business in Spain) They get in making holes in the walls of the shelter.. The dog fights are frequent, they steal the small dogs and the puppies to throw them in as food or practice for the pit-bulls. The shelter people often find dead bodies of dogs around the shelter that have been used for fights and/or poisoned by those people. The stolen dogs suffer terribly, many die of hunger and thirst, others of cold and are kept chained with punishment steel collars with sharp points that are actually instruments of torture. There are only 4 volunteers to protect the animals and they get no support from the police or the municipal authorities. They need to be allocated a new site away from this camp, we need to put pressure on the authorities! We at the BrightEyes Society (BES) have witnessed similar situations in other parts of Spain, notably the Málaga shelter, and plan to keep campaigning for the police to prosecute these groups that carry out their "businesses" of animal theft, torture and death and for the municipal authorities to support and protect the shelters.
