BARBARIC CRUELTY ON THE LIMERICK STREETS ... Angel's story

First Alert: received from Limerick Animal Welfare

Cruelty to animals in Limerick has reached unacceptable proportions. The Halloween period had been a nightmare. The violence and cruelty to animals on the streets has continued unabated over the past six weeks. Our members are no longer safe in certain areas of the city. We have been attacked in broad daylight at
4.30 in the afternoon.

We have witnessed the most senseless acts of cruelty being perpetrated on unfortunate dogs, cats and horses. However, we now feel we have to speak out strongly as to-day we experienced the most horrific case of mindless barbaric cruelty. We responded to a call from a member of the public telling us that a dog
was lying on the street in terrible condition. On arrival at the scene our volunteers found a poor lurcher in an awful state. This poor animal
was totally emaciated and hairless and was being tortured by a gang of young boys, average age probably eleven or twelve years old. They were
pushing nails into her stomach and trying to choke her.

They were laughing and boasting that they would finish her off with a brick to the head. They said that they had already killed her pups. Unbelievable as
it might seem this poor dog had recently given birth. We called this lurcher Angel and she is fighting for her life to-night. For more on this story http://ameurogreyhoundalliance.org/limerickcruelty.html

HOW MUCH MORE CRUELTY CAN THE ABANDONED ANIMALS OF LIMERICK BE EXPECTED TO ENDURE ?

Limerick Animal Welfare cannot begin to build the much needed Animal Sanctuary at Kilfinane because of lack of funds. Our bills for the
month of October amounted to 27,500 euro as a result of the huge number of accident and emergency cases we had to cater for due to the
fireworks and bangers.

WE URGENTLY NEED DONATIONS TO HELP WITH OUR VETERINARY BILLS. AT PRESENT WE OWE THE VETS APPROXIMATELY 10,000 EURO. WE CANNOT CONTINUE WITHOUT YOUR HELP. DONATIONS WILL BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED AT OUR CHARITY SHOP, 12 B UPPER CECIL STREET, LIMERICK. YOU CAN ALSO DONATE ON LINE.
