A
small group of greyhound racers is planning a new track in Bolton
(see article at the bottom of this page) ... they will soon be
contacting local councillors for their support, so lets educate
them while we still have the chance and stop this new track.
Please email the local
councillors and local paper to educate them about the true facts
of greyhound racing ... you can find their e-mail addresses below:
Paper letters page is letters@theboltonnews.co.uk
Bolton councillors can be found at http://www.democracy.bolton.gov.uk/cmiswebpublic/Members.aspx
Please add your voices
to the worldwide outcry ... be polite and let them know the facts.
Please
feel free to point them to http://www.greyhoundaction.org.uk
and to http://www.greyhoundaction.org.uk/facts7.html
and http://www.greyhoundaction.org.uk/facts.html
in particular.
As this is a financially based venture you might also like
to point out that greyhound racing is in decline in the UK and
attendances are falling everywhere so it is unlikely that this
track will be a success. You can refer them to http://www.greyhoundaction.org.uk/closedtracks.html
which contains infromation about this.
And in the light of the recent decision by Cockermouth council
to turn down a proposal for a new track, you can point out that
the tide is flowing against this cruel industry and it would be
shameful for Bolton council to permit a new track when all around
the world tracks are closing ... click
here for more info about the Cockermouth camapign.
Finally
you might like to refer them to the recent Times article about
healthy unwanted racing greyhounds being killed for their organs

The following is an extract from a recent article
from the Bolton News
You can see the full article here http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/display.var.2152292.0.greyhound_racing_to_return_to_bolton.php
Important:
they are also holding an online poll on this page "Should
Bolton have it's own greyhound track?" ... so please click
on the link above and register your vote (although the poll might
have closed by the time you get there) ... you can also leave
a comment too at the bottom of the page.
Greyhound
racing to return to Bolton?
By News Editor James Higgins
THE
glory days of greyhound racing could soon be back in Bolton.
A
group of enthusiasts will meet next week to launch a fresh bid
to revive the sport in the area.
They
will debate a number of potential sites for a new racing track
with the input of experts from Belle Vue Speedway.
Among
the sites that will be up for discussion is land in the Middlebrook
area.
The
meeting marks the latest bid to re-introduce the sport to Bolton
following the closure of the Raikes Lane greyhound track in 1996.
It
is being organised by Tony Foden, who played a key part in the
successful bid to save the smaller Westhoughton dog track, in
Wigan Road, from being developed into homes in 2004.

Mr
Foden, a retired businessman, said: "There is still a lot
of passion for dog racing in Bolton and Raikes Lane has been sorely
missed since it was closed controversially.
"Our
plans are very much in their infancy at the moment and we need
to look at various things, including location and how this could
be financed. But we know there is and would be a lot of interest
in a new track.
"We
have spoken to Bolton councillors in the past who have expressed
their support for a new racetrack and are planning to approach
Bolton Council with a view to them suggesting a few potential
sites."
